Monster Shark is an Italian production: “Rosso nell’ oceano”
The movie was release under a lot of different names. “Devil Fish”, “Monster from the Red Ocean”, “Devouring Waves” and “Shark: Red in the Ocean”. They’re the same movie. Let’s just call it “Spaghetti Shark”. The movie with no name.
Somewhere along a coastline, somewhere in south Florida, a mysterious laboratory created mutant sea creature, part shark part octopus, starts feeding on tourists, swimmers, movie viewers brain cells and making a local sheriff actually have to do work. A marine biologist who basically spends his time chugging beer, letting his balls dangle from his shorts, a dolphin trainer and a scientist go after the creature to assist the sheriff. The mutant shark somehow, someway fins it’s way to the Florida everglades for some more action.
Could this all be part of a government project? For those that embrace conspiracy theories, put on your tin foil hats and enjoy. They all come to the surface just like Monster Shark. Tune in.
This Italian “Movie with No Name” should never be mistaken for the classic Italian master films by legendary director Sergio Leone’s “Man with No Name” trilogy featuring Clint Eastwood. At the time they coined as low budget “spaghetti” westerns but their quality and style changed the way filmmakers created westerns even today. Leone followed up this series with another classic trilogy the “Once Upon A Time” series of films. He was also a first choice to direct “The Godfather” but turned it down to create his own gangster epic “Once Upon A Time in America” with Robert De Niro.
Monster Shark director Lamberto Bava doesn’t deliver the same quality with his film working with a low budget as Leone did. This “spaghetti” shark movie comes in spurts of amusing amateurism, linguine tentacles, pasta sauce blood and gore. It lacks bite but it does have balls… Dangling.
