Natures battle vs Man, the Navy and Robots
After the mysterious disappearance of an oil rig and a submarine in the Gulf of Mexico a naval Armada Program dispatches a crew, a stereotypical combination of drunks and techie gamers, operating giant robots to investigate. They find the missing rig and sub but also the million year old mutant sea creature that caused it, figure out a way to piss it off while just trying to protect her eggs, and the creature tactically decides to attack the coastal beach. The Admiral in charge wants to use nuclear force to stop the creature but the rebellious robot crew and Eco-scientists wants to advert it since it was man that caused the sea creature to naturally protect her eggs. Chaos ensues.
Movie Time
Shot in Florida, the production was refused to access Navy facilities due to the fact Navy officials did not like the depiction of them as, well, a drunken bunch of sailors on fleet week and military leadership ready to hit the shiny red button for a nuclear strike. The truth hurts I guess or maybe a fear of pink robots eating them after hearing a Flaming Lips song and video. The movie itself is quiet entertaining in the sense that it is so bad but but so good. It’s a joke waiting for a punchline. The Asylum CGI graphics are modern day cheesy, with their notorious production requirements of some staff working 22 hours per day, heavy-handed parody scripts, acting and directing, It’s a hoot. .
Realistically, the advancements in aquatic robot technology are quite amazing. NASA has helped develop an aquatic robot with an origami design that can catch a sea creature and analyze and learn from it and release it back into the sea.
